breakfast
most of these campsites have little communal kitchen areas with stoves that you can use, so we made some tasty eggs! we also tried some icelandic (or idk, european?) energy drinks, which were pretty good!

glacier view

waterfall
it was a short hike (a mile or so, maybe?) to this waterfall, which had more incredible basalt!
also, there were a ton of different bathrooms at the trailhead area and somehow I ended up using the mens bathroom and it smelled gross and I didn’t realize until later on, oops
jordan also creeped on some dude and took a pic of his hiking boots because he liked them so much! (they were lowa’s)

glacial lake stop
this was really funny, because on the way around the ring road, we stopped super super quickly at this glacial lake for like 5 minutes to try and avoid paying the fee! I think we succeeded, but honestly, I don’t really know lol

hvannagil – the golden valley drive
this was a new road (compared to 2017) that I found on google maps that looked gorgeous! it was really really cool, but I got anxious about whether we were allowed to drive there, which ended up not being a problem at all. I think I get anxious like that a lot, and hopefully I can remind myself in the future that things usually work out better than I expect them to:)

rocks! and our location

driving
random pull-off

random waterfall
I “hiked” to this smaller waterfall right off the road while Jordan took a break in the car (he was getting tired of driving, which is totally valid because he had been doing the majority of it), and I considered throwing my swimsuit on and jumping in! it would have been absolutely freezing, but it would have been the coolest adventure ever!!! I wish I had done it!!

pretty

ignimbrite
just me and my chunk of ignimbrite, which is basically a solidified pyroclastic flow!

waterfall
we ended up taking a really cool road that wound up through the mountains, and we stopped at another waterfall off the side of the road. and look what we found!!! zeolites!!!

more driving

camp!
this was a really pretty and really chill campsite. there was a little pond with some ducks, and the sunset was gorgeous!
